International News: The long-standing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia took a violent turn on Friday. India has alerted its citizens and advised them to avoid travelling to seven provinces of Thailand. In this warning issued by the Indian Embassy, it has been said that the level of violence on the border of both countries has increased and the situation is becoming very serious.

The advisory has been issued at a time when Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Phumtham Vechaychai told the press that the current situation has turned into a deadly conflict that endangers people's lives and could lead to a warlike situation. Meanwhile, heavy weapons are being used in the border area, and thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes.

The Indian Embassy issued an advisory

The Indian Embassy said in its statement, "Given the situation near the Thailand-Cambodia border, all Indian citizens are advised to keep getting updates from Thai government sources such as TAT Newsroom and avoid traveling to the affected areas for the time being." Thai authorities have imposed travel restrictions in more than 20 places, including major provinces such as Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Sisaket, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat.

At least 16 people, including a soldier and some children, were killed in fierce clashes that began in the border area on Thursday. At the same time, 15 soldiers and more than 30 civilians were injured. The Thai army said that Cambodian forces used heavy artillery and Russian-made BM-21 rocket launchers, in response to which Thailand retaliated appropriately. According to reports, Thailand has also carried out several air strikes inside Cambodia's border. Thai military forces confirmed various encounters in four border provinces on Friday.

According to Thailand's Health Ministry, more than 58,000 people have been displaced from the violence-hit provinces so far. At the same time, the Cambodian administration said that more than 4,000 citizens have been evacuated safely from the areas along the border.

The clash is the second major clash since a Cambodian soldier was shot dead in May. The latest tensions escalated after a recent landmine explosion injured several Thai soldiers, and the two countries downgraded their diplomatic relations.

impact on diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cambodia have deteriorated following recent incidents. There have long been tensions between the two countries over an old land dispute, but the recent violence has brought the situation to the brink of war.

Thai caretaker Prime Minister Phumtham Vechaychai warned, "In the current situation, there is a serious threat to the lives of civilians due to infiltration and aggressive actions. This conflict can turn into war at any time. Heavy weapons are being used in the current situation."
